GRW ANNUAL DOG SHOW 2009 - PEMBREY

As usual the day of the Pembrey Fun Day dawned bright and sunny. There were several stall holders at the site very early, and the staff at Pembrey Country Park went out of their way to make everyone welcome.

It was wonderful to see such a large number of dogs taking part in the show. On one hand the huge Great Danes belonging to Liz and Gordon Davies (Canninpedr Kennels) who were entered in the Companion Animal Exemption puppy classes with Canninpedr Tennessee Blue otherwise known as Lady, and the other end of the show the tiny Chinese Crested dogs who were entered in many classes and the 18 year old eventual winner of the newly donated perpetual award - Mr Puw and Rocky Best Veteran Rescue Shield.

Ken Rees, the owner of Mr Puw a small rescued dachshund (with a massive attitude and heart, born blind in one eye) and his daughter Amanda our news letter editor and owner of Rocky (another small dog with a massive attitude and heart) each lost their pets in tragic circumstances at the start of this year within a week of each other were present to see the shield being presented to Scritchy who has survived epilepsy, fractured pelvis, heart complaints and many other illnesses in the past 12 months.

In between these extremes in size and age there was a diverse collection of pets and their owners all taking part in the classes. 'Axel' a honey coloured wire-coated 14 year old Lurcher became a firm favourite with the crowd.

The class which attracted the largest number of entries was the Best Rescue of any breed or mixture.

Chrissie Mielert the local veterinary surgeon had her work cut out selecting the eventual winner 'Whisper'. While in the other ring Viv Steer, local pet groomer and local businesswoman was judging the high standard of entries in the exemption show.

After all monies were counted just over £500 was raised at this year's show. The pitch has already been booked and Folland Ferrets have asked to attend. I am guessing this is an indication that everybody's hard work before and during the show has once more been appreciated.

Well Done and thank you everyone!
