If you are considering, or have decided to give a home a greyhound or lurcher, please get in touch. Our list is always being updated and changing, but it is not always possible to put all our dogs on the web site. The best way is to give our national helpline on 0300 0123 999 or send an email to rehoming@greyhoundrescuewales.co.uk
For more information please see our Adoption Procedure at the bottom of this page. |

LEG SAVED
Sly
Sly is a lovely hairy lurcher who was abandoned and faced having his leg amputated following a nasty fracture. Fortunately quick work by Greyhound Rescue Wales and the skills of a experienced vet meant the leg was saved. Sly is around 18 months old and has lived in a family home. He could live as an only dog and is used to being left but ideally he'd like an active home. Sly is housetrained and is very playful. The plaster is about to come off and be replaced by a soft bandage. It's been a long 8 weeks for not being able to run and exercise. However that time is almost up and Sly is now ready to be rehomed.

NEW ARRIVAL
Grace
Grace is a very pretty, playful young lurcher bitch who loves the company of people and is very quick to bond. We found her in a pityful condition, her feet stained because she had been kept and penned up and forced to stand in her own urine for long periods. Though shy and scared she immediately responded to affection. After lots of care Grace has now proved to be full of character and would suit an active home. She is housetrained and can be left for reasonable periods. She gets on with most dogs but could live as an only dog.

Alex
Alex is a loveable, playful three-year-old girl who is completely house trained and stands at approx 26" . Alex is in a foster home at present with two teenage boys and two other greyhounds and she gets on well with both dogs but Alex doesn't like other breeds especially small dogs and she isn't cat friendly. She can sometimes be a little nervous around strangers visiting her home but soon comes round. Unfortunately Alex is scared of very young children so she would suit a home with older kids. She enjoys walks and is very good on her lead when out. All in all she's a great dog.

Many people write to us and let us know about their Happy Homing of greyhounds and lurchers. You can also see photographs of some of the many other Dogs We Have Homed.
Please see our Homed From Home page for dogs waiting to be brought into our care. These dogs can be homed directly from their current owners.
If you feel you could give that little bit extra to a dog in need maybe in the way of much needed TLC then please see Dogs Who Need A Helping Hand and our Special Dogs page.
1) You can contact GRW either by;
- Email info@greyhoundrescuewales.co.uk Your enquiry will be passed onto the GRW representative in your area so please give both a contact phone number and the area where you live.
- Phoning the GRW national rescue line 0300 0123 999 Your enquiry will be passed on directly to the GRW representative in your area. You will be asked for a contact phone number and the area in which you live.
- Finding a GRW representative for your area in the Contact Us page on the site. The regional representative will be able to answer any questions you may have on the criteria needed to home one of our dogs, general care of the greyhound etc. Although they may not be able to chat specifically about a particular dog you may be enquiring about, they will arrange a home visit with you.
2) The home visit. The home visit by one of our regional representatives is both very informal and very important. The home visit enables you to ask as many questions as you like about the greyhound as a breed and general care of the hound etc. If you have a list of questions prepared your home visitor will be more than happy to answer them. There are a few things that we do insist on when looking for homes for our dogs.
These include:
- A well fenced garden min height of approx 5ft.
- Time the dog is left alone:- We understand that people have to work so if you do work full time we will still consider homing a dog with you as long as you can provide a dog walker or someone to pop round in the day to take him/her out for a walk. If you do work full time and you have someone in mind to help keep your dog stimulated during the time you're out of the house they will need to be present at the home visit.
- All of your circumstances i.e. small children in your home, cats and other pets present, your working hours, your garden etc. will be taken into account at the home visit so we can then try to find a dog to suit your needs.
Please Note. We will not home any of our dogs to someone who wants to use the dog for either racing or working etc. The dogs in our care have been rescued and are with us for a reason, hence them coming into our care to be rehomed as a pet.
3) Match you with a dog After your home visit, the regional representative will contact the Rehoming Commmittee to discuss your home circumstances. They will then phone to have a chat with you about the dogs in our care. Between you, you will probably decide on a few dogs that could be suitable for you. The Rehoming Committee is aware of all the dogs in our care and will be able to guide you in making the right choice for both your family and home circumstances along with the greyhounds' needs.
4) Meet the dogs. Once you've decided you'd like to meet some of the dogs we will contact either the foster home or the kennel coordinator and arrange a visit time. If you have a dog already it's important to bring your dog along to either the foster home or the kennels. You will have the opportunity to go for a short walk with both dogs. If you have children it's also important to bring the children along so they can feel comfortable in the dogs presence before you take him/her home.
5) Adoption. If all goes well and you, your family and your own dog (if you have one) feel the dog you've met is the right one for you and the kennel coordinator feels the same you will be able to take the dog home with you. You will be asked to fill in some paperwork to say you've adopted the dog.
6) Follow up. When you return home with your dog, should you have any problems or just a general question please feel free to phone your home visitor. After 2 to 3 days your home visitor will give you a ring to check all is well with you and after 2 weeks or so your home visitor will do a follow up visit with you to check again that all is well. We will then leave you alone but please do not hesitate to phone if you want to discuss something about your new dog.
Hopefully we'll all meet up again at a fundraising event or street/store collection where you can meet other proud greyhound and lurcher owners.
