Hillcrest Hospital, AKA Hillcrest Kitchen where our Last Hope dogs recover and recuperate.
Last Hope was a racing greyhound who was found left for dead, badly injured and with both ears cut off on a mountainside in the Rhymney Valley in South Wales. He was discovered lying on rubbish with a hole in his forehead on 2 May 2004 by a walker and was later humanely destroyed.
But out of such immense cruelty can come some good. Greyhound Rescue Wales set up the ‘Last Hope Fund’ to help and protect other greyhounds from this awful fate.

Dr Moo with patients Wendy, Freddie and Fleet having a rest and dreaming of their forever homes.
Little Wendy Woo is recovering from an infection in her broken leg. Luckily her gentle nature means that she’s coping reasonably well with having enforced crate rest. She’s an excellent patient, who is quiet, takes her meds well. Wendy is working towards fighting off her infection so we can begin gentle rehab work.
Fabulous Freddie is recovering well with his broken hind leg. He is weight bearing very well & is now working on longer lead walks & hills to build strength. Luckily Freddie’s easygoing nature & natural laziness make him an excellent patient
Mighty Milo is recovering extremely well, he is now managing well in walk, trot, canter & jumping on beds with his 3 legs! He is clearly feeling much better in himself, as shown through his typical young dog mischief of chewing everything in sight 🙄! Milo is now working on daily gentle hill walks to strengthen the muscle tone in his remaining hind leg.
Friendly Fleet is our newest patient, arriving only yesterday looking somewhat bewildered. But after a good nights sleep Fleet is much more relaxed this morning. Despite extensive bruising & obvious soreness he is coping well so far. Fleet is eating well & was keen to explore the garden in his toilet breaks. Fleet will be working on gaining his stability & balance for his new life as a tripawd
Last, but not least Dr Moo, whose job it is to watch over all the Hillcrest patients that come & go. Dr Moo always takes his job seriously & always watches over his little charges with patience & love 😍
