Jenny, Sam and Maisy Walk 150km in May
GRW trustee Jenny is walking 150km this May with her greyhounds Sam and Maisy, totalling the same distance covered by all her adopted dogs over their racing lives. Jenny says:
“Joe and I have been fortunate enough to have adopted three dogs from GRW – the late great Queen Bea, Sam and Maisy. Over the course of their racing lives, between them our dogs raced 150,948m on the race tracks of the UK…
Sam and Maisy, complete with humans, are going to do something far more enjoyable. Scenic, sniffy walks is a far more pleasurable way to travel that distance – so that’s what Sam and Maisy are going to do. 150km throughout May.”
Aberystwyth to Borth (and back again!)
Hillcrest volunteer Jess is putting on her boots and getting walking for this year’s Raise for Greys. Jess says:
“I regularly volunteer at Greyhound Rescue Wales kennels and have decided to walk from Aberystwyth to Borth and back again (10 miles in total) to help raise money for the rescue that will go towards looking after the dogs in their care and rehoming them to their forever homes.”
72km for a 72nd Birthday
Long-time GRW supporter Evan Kinsey is going to be running 72km during this year’s Big Raise for Greys, to celebrate his upcoming 72nd birthday. Evan says:
“I am 72 soon (gulp!) so I want to celebrate by running a kilometre for each year (gulp again!). I hope you will sponsor me and raise money for Greyhound Rescue Wales. Every little bit helps – ‘each pound raised helps save a hound’.”
The Greyt Hillcrest Marathon
Our Rehoming Centre Manager Sabina is running an incredible marathon up and down the hill from our Hillcest rehoming centre. Sabina says:
” I will be undertaking a marathon up and down Hillcrest hill. It is 2 miles exactly from the bottom to the top and back. From 7am I will be undertaking a ‘lap’ starting at Hillcrest gate, then every hour on the hour until 8pm. Anyone can join for a lap, they will be walking laps and all humans and hounds welcome to join the ‘fun’ ! And if anyone can spare any pennies and donate it would be much appreciated! Helping hounds now and in the future.”
Brecon Beacons Half Marathon (plus a bit!)
Our CEO Tim Doyle will be running 17 miles and climbing 3000ft over the Brecon Beacons in May to raise money for Greyhound Rescue Wales. Tim says:
“I am about as far from a natural trail runner as you can get, but I am going to run through the pain to spread the word about the amazing work of GRW and raise much-needed funds for our hounds.”
