Keeping Hounds in Homes Owner

An essential Greyhound Rescue Wales scheme is stepping up once again to help sighthound owners this Winter.

As we all know, the cost of living has affected many people greatly. Unfortunately, it has particularly affected pet owners. Statistics from Dogs Trust show requests to give up dogs from struggling owners have more than doubled in the last year.

Many owners can no longer afford to feed their dogs, despite doing everything they can. This can lead to dogs heartbreakingly being surrendered to rescue centres, who are already at, or close to, capacity.

There are hundreds of sighthounds in this scenario across Wales and rescues are already overflowing with dogs needing homes. In some cases, the waiting list for rescue spaces are months long.

But we can help! Our Keeping Hounds in Homes scheme is there to support these dogs, who would otherwise have come into our kennels. Not only does this keep sighthounds in their loving homes, but it helps free up kennel space for those who desperately need it.

The Keeping Hounds in Homes scheme can help provide:

  • Food
  • Bedding
  • Equipment (i.e., leads, harnesses)
  • Behaviour support
  • Veterinary support
    … and more!

I cannot express honestly how grateful I am, and how welcome this is. That unexpected cost[…]has really knocked me sideways. Thank you!

We want to expand this scheme to help more dogs, but to do this we need your support.

We need your help to build storage for our pet food bank, purchase equipment, and assist with behaviour and veterinary support.

For as little as £1.50 per week you can help someone’s beloved dog stay fed, while owners get back on their feet.
