In our very own version of DIY SOS, a combination of staff, trustees and volunteers gave up their Saturday to help out with some urgent work on our Hillcrest rehoming centre.

An urgent programme of maintenance was recently identified for Hillcrest, including replacing aging kennel floors, improving access and generally providing better accommodation for hounds. In addition to these repairs, there will be the arrival of additional kennel pods over the coming weeks that will expand Hillcrest’s capacity from 13 to 19 dogs.

Our list of dogs waiting to come in to our kennels has far exceeded normal levels recently, alongside additional pressures from the rising cost of living. The decision was taken to make these changes now to respond to these pressures and shore up the kennel facilities before the arrival of colder and wetter weather later in the year.

The help provided by people offering their services to us has enabled us to keep costs down and respond much faster to these demands. People have come forward offering all sorts including power tools, building advice, and lending a hand with some manual labour.

Thank you to everyone who has helped so far. Keep an eye out over the coming weeks for more updates on our Hillcrest facility.
