Keeping Hounds in Homes

About

Our Keeping Hounds in Homes project is all about supporting people who might be worried about the immediate cost of keeping their sighthound. There are a lot of pressures on dog owners in the current climate, including rising food bills and vet costs, wage stagnation and housing instability.

We are seeing an increasing number of people approaching us to surrender dogs due to the rising cost of living. Although in some cases there may be no alternative, it is often the case that by providing a bit of short-term support, we can keep hounds in their existing homes. It is better for the dog, better for the owners and better for Greyhound Rescue Wales.

How We Can Help

If you, or someone you know, is concerned about being able to keep their sighthound, we may be able to provide temporary support and guidance to meet their dog’s physical, mental and medical needs such as:

  • Behavioural guidance and advice
  • Support with dog food
  • Support and/or signposting for support with vet treatment
  • Help finding dog-friendly housing
  • Referral to other organisations who can help further
  • Providing additional bedding and warm clothing for hounds

Our team are extremely knowledgeable and have extensive contacts in sighthound welfare across Wales and the wider UK. If you think we could support you or someone you know with their sighthound, please complete the form below and one of our team will be in touch to arrange a support call.
